Being Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, 2004

August Bank Holiday in 2004 was Great Bowden Village Festival Weekend.

It was dominated by Anglo Saxons! (the late Paul Allen and his re-enactment group) who camped in the paddock adjacent to the Village Hall, and gave weapon training to the village children. Which was just as well because on Monday we suffered a Viking raid and all the training was put to the test. Our brave young people repelled and killed the raiders.  A lot of fun was had by all. St John Ambulance ladies had only one casualty - a viking with a cut finger.

Our group also had an exhibition in the Village Hall of all things Anglo-Saxon and tea and cakes (not burnt) in the King Alfred cafe, if you could drag yourself away from the fighting.
